Four-fold Purpose of Humanity

Ephesians 1:12
“ . . . in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.”
Matthew 22:35-39
“One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Genesis 1:28
“God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Ephesians 2:10
“For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Ephesians 1:4, 11
“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight . . . having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will”

To Be or Not to Be?

World’s message: “Be all that you can be!”
God’s message: “Be all that you already are!”

Psalm 139:14

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Be yourself

You have a vocation to be yourself. You are called to become you, that unique person whom God had in mind from the beginning of creation. When Rabbi Zuchsa was dying he was asked what questions he thought God would put to him when he got to heaven. “I’m not sure”, he said, “except of one thing.” God won’t be saying to me, “Why weren’t you Moses?” or “Why weren’t you David?” but “Why weren’t you Zuchsa?”

The Challenge

Oswald Chambers: “When you are rightly related to God, it is a life of freedom, liberty and delight, you are God’s will.”

It is vital that you as an image-bearer of God discover how God’s will is expressed through who you were created to be.
